GoGo Field Trip: Seeing the World Upside-Down

1

A note to readers: After reading this post you may feel exhilarated, confused, dizzy and maybe even a little bit salty.

The gang at GoGo HQ decided to take a little field trip recently. What did we experience? A slide that spans 3 floors… a tank where you can float in water and feel limitless… a mirrored carousel. Any guesses to where we traveled to? Disneyworld perhaps? Coney Island?

Nope! None of the above…a museum! We took a short ride on the subway to the Lower East Side’s “New Museum” to gather some inspiration from the “Carsten Höller Experience.” The New Museum’s Carsten Holler exhibit is an oversized playground of wonders meant to make boring old adults feel like kids again. This art exhibit is extremely unique as it allows the viewer to experience art in the eyes of a child… perfect for us at GoGo squeeZ!

Höller was originally trained as a scientist and is frequently inspired by works that alter the audience’s physical and psychological sensations, inspiring doubt and uncertainty about the world around them. His work often draws on social spaces outside of the museum such as the amusement park, zoo, or playground, but the experiences they provide are always far from our usual expectations of these activities.

Each floor of the exhibition explores a different general theme within Höller’s work to provide a carefully choreographed journey through the building and the artist’s oeuvre. We had a blast traveling down a SUPER fast slide that spanned 3 floors, riding on the Mirror Carousel and submerging into the Giant Psycho Tank, where we weightlessly floated our cares away in water! We felt like we were right in the pages of Alice in Wonderland! Our favorite part? The Upside Down Goggles, which not only made us look like characters from Star Trek, but turned our entire worlds upside down!

The GoGo Gang can’t wait to take the inspiration from the exhibit back to the office!
